USC Adds BlueCielo Explorer

Houston, Texas – June 10, 2011 – The University of Southern California has added BlueCielo Explorer thus extending their BlueCielo Meridian environment.

The new Explorer module provides a very intuitive interface that virtually anyone that has used the web to purchase books or music can quickly understand.  The user can navigate the repository interactively by selecting specific property values from a dynamically filtered list that is based on their current result set of documents.  In this way users can quickly narrow their search from hundreds of thousands of documents to the specific documents they are interested in.  The BlueCielo Explorer also provides full text search on both properties and document content.  Search results are presented in the common list format or, alternatively, as easily recognizable thumbnails. The search results can also be viewed, printed, or quickly exported to Excel with the document metadata.

Explorer also replicates all of your document metadata into SQL Server tables that can then be used with other applications (e.g. GIS or BIM).  Standard report writing software (e.g. Brio or Crystal Reports) can then be used to create reports on the document metadata.

This new module also allows other applications to query Meridian by constructing a logical URL.  The URL can include parameters with keywords and values.  Using this method an application (e.g. GIS or BIM) can automatically spawn a browser and pass parameters in the URL to retrieve documents related to a selected item.  For example, selecting a building or manhole in GIS can launch BlueCielo Explorer and display all the documents related to that building or manhole.  If the result set of documents is large, the user can then quickly use additional “point and click” logical filters from lists to retrieve the specific document(s) required (e.g. All Architectural Drawings).
